MMC Building New Distribution Centre to Support Eastern Ontario Hospitals
Mohawk Medbuy (MMC) has begun construction of a new distribution centre in Belleville, Ontario, marking another significant milestone in the organization’s expansion of Warehousing & Logistics Services across the province.
Strategically located near the Highway 401 corridor, the new 50,000-square-foot facility will support Brockville General Hospital, Kingston Health Sciences Centre, Lennox and Addington County General Hospital, Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital, Providence Care and Quinte Health to start with – leveraging MMC’s just-in-time (JIT), low-unit-of-measure distribution model.
As a national, not-for-profit shared services organization specializing in health care supply chain services, MMC already operates one of Canada’s largest health care distribution centres in Oakville. Beginning this month, MMC is also supporting the warehousing and logistics needs of numerous hospitals in Southwestern Ontario through an agreement with Medline Canada.
The addition of the Belleville distribution centre further expands MMC’s provincial distribution network, bringing logistics services closer to Members in Eastern Ontario while enhancing supply chain resilience, operational efficiency and service responsiveness.
“Building on our logistics expansion in Southwestern Ontario, our new facility in Belleville will provide Eastern Ontario hospitals with access to a modern, scalable distribution network that supports reliability of supply, creates efficiencies and helps strengthen the health care supply chain for the future,” said Tony DiEmanuele, President and CEO, Mohawk Medbuy.
The new Distribution Centre is a stimulus of economic development in Belleville, home of Quinte Health – one of the Southeastern Ontario health care organizations that will be transitioning its warehousing and logistics to the facility.
“Strong partnerships are essential to a strong health care system," said Stacey Daub, President and CEO, Quinte Health. "No hospital can do this work alone. By strengthening the health care supply chain across our region, this investment helps ensure our teams have the supplies they need when they need them, so they can focus on providing safe, high-quality care for the people and communities we serve.”
The Belleville distribution centre is expected to begin operations in summer 2027. Once fully operational, the facility will stock more than 2,000 medical and surgical products, support approximately $118 million in annual throughput and create approximately 70 supply chain and logistics positions in the region.
The facility represents MMC’s continued investment in building a stronger, scalable and more resilient health care supply chain to support hospitals and care providers across Ontario.
