Mohawk Medbuy Finalizes Shared Services West Acquisition

Continuing consolidation of Ontario SHARED SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS is facilitating greater buying power and value for the province

We are pleased to announce that Mohawk Medbuy Corporation (MMC) will acquire Shared Services West (SSW), effective April 1, 2024. The two not-for-profit, shared services organizations (SSO) have been engaged in due diligence activities to explore the merits of integration since June 2023.

It marks the latest in a series of voluntary consolidations of Ontario SSOs – a trend that is strengthening the buying power of the public sector and facilitating greater value and more efficient, streamlined procurement. Mohawk Medbuy has an ongoing commitment to supporting quality patient care and a sustainable health system. This continued expansion in scale, services and capacity builds on MMC’s vision to be Canada’s trusted partner in delivering supply chain value, innovation and insight to health care.

MMC has also reached an agreement to acquire the Supply Chain division of TransForm Shared Service Organization, also as of April 1, 2024. This follows a robust due diligence process that took place throughout the summer and fall of 2023 between MMC, TransForm and the Southwestern Ontario hospitals involved. As was the case with SSW, this acquisition received strong endorsement from those hospitals, all of which were already Members of MMC. TransForm will continue to operate and provide digital health and information technology services to its member hospitals, the region and extending to the province.

All employees of SSW and the Supply Chain division of TransForm will join Mohawk Medbuy on April 1. The TransForm employees transitioning to MMC will continue to be based in Chatham, Ontario and will comprise MMC’s procurement hub for that region.

According to Fred Horne, Board Chair of MMC, “Mohawk Medbuy’s continued growth is a reflection of its customer-centric model, innovative support programs for health care and advanced data analytics.” The integration aligns with the Ontario Government’s objectives of consolidating procurement activities and obtaining greater value and supply chain stability for the province.

“The complexities of the health care supply chain require solutions that maximize value for our hospitals, patients and communities,” according to Melissa Farrell, Board Chair of Shared Services West. “Becoming part of MMC does just that and will yield long-term benefits.”
