The Ottawa Hospital Signs on to Mohawk Medbuy’s MEALsource Nutrition Procurement Program

Mohawk Medbuy Corporation (MMC) is pleased to welcome The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) to our MEALsource nutrition procurement program. TOH is one of hundreds of public sector organizations across the country benefiting from MMC’s not-for-profit, shared services model.

TOH has leveraged MMC’s sourcing solutions for medical/surgical supplies for several years and transitioned to our Pharmacy Program in 2023. Expanding our partnership to nutrition is the natural next step in working together to strengthen the health care supply chain in Eastern Ontario.

“We’re excited to deepen our long-term relationship with The Ottawa Hospital through our nutrition program,” said Tony DiEmanuele, MMC’s President and CEO. “MEALsource is tailored by province to local farmers and actively fosters opportunities for them to participate in the health care nutrition procurement process. Through this partnership, MMC is uniquely positioned to enhance TOH’s access to food producers and suppliers in Eastern Ontario – allowing TOH patients to enjoy the significant nutritional benefits of locally sourced food.”

Drawing on more than five decades of health care nutrition procurement experience, MMC’s MEALsource program allows Members to easily customize their nutrition offerings to meet the individual needs of their patients and facilities. Members participate fully in the product selection process, and MEALsource’s aggregated volume pricing helps hospitals maximize value for their specific nutritional requirements.

“We’re very happy to be working with Mohawk Medbuy to meet the complex nutritional needs of our patients,” said Kevin Peters, TOH’s Executive Director, Clinical Operations. “Quality nutrition is a vital part of our patients’ health and recovery. By leveraging MEALsource’s significant buying power, TOH can access a broad range of nutritional choices that support both patient wellbeing and local food suppliers. It’s an excellent solution for us.”
