Powering Out of the Pandemic

Record Growth in Contract Spend, Savings & Members Highlight of 2022 Annual Meeting

Mohawk Medbuy (MMC) hosted its Annual Meeting of Members on June 23, 2022 –marking the fifth anniversary of our amalgamation. The national, not-for-profit shared services organization has seen spending on its 1,500+ health care contracts double in that time and its Membership increase by 74%.

The meeting theme, Powering Out of the Pandemic, underscores the significant accomplishments of MMC in 2021/22 – a record year that saw contract spend increase by $230M. The substantial growth has been driven by the many new health care organizations that have joined MMC and by the outcomes of its data analytics for legacy Members.

“We’re extremely thankful to all our MMC Members across the country for the stamina they’ve shown throughout COVID-19 and for their unwavering commitment to delivering quality patient care,” said Tony DiEmanuele, MMC’s President and CEO. “It inspires and motivates everyone in our organization to deliver the best support possible.”

Beyond its ongoing support of Members and government in dealing with worldwide supply chain disruptions, Mohawk Medbuy expanded its national footprint over the past fiscal year – beginning with the purchase of St. Joseph’s Health System’s capital and nutrition GPO and concluding with the acquisition of Northern Supply Chain.

Rebates and savings results for the year were shared with Members at the Annual Meeting along with numerous other initiatives that will soon be made public. They include additional supply chain integration, updates regarding MMC’s Environmental, Social & Governance Program and an Indigenous partnership.

A noteworthy part of meeting was an address by James Hiebert, President of Medical, Surgical & Safety Supplies Limited (MSS), a leading Canadian Indigenous-owned medical device and drug distribution company. He spoke about the pillars of reconciliation and a new relationship between MSS and MMC that will explore avenues of collaboration and support as we embark on our reconciliation journey.

The members of MMC’s Board were also recognized for their ongoing guidance and direction, and we welcomed our new Directors for 2022/23.
