Mohawk Medbuy Announces MOU with Shared Services West

We’re pleased to announce that Mohawk Medbuy Corporation (MMC) and Shared Services West (SSW) have signed an exclusive memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore SSW’s integration with MMC. Both not-for-profit, shared services organizations have a strong track record of working together and are committed to the centralization and resiliency of the health care supply chain.

The announcement comes on the heels of Mohawk Medbuy’s recent amalgamation with Plexxus and acquisition of 3SO – and allows MMC to continue to drive the integration needed for public sector procurement to truly thrive. “We have a strong working relationship with SSW and are excited at the prospect of our two organizations coming together,” said Fred Horne, Board Chair, Mohawk Medbuy. “By consolidating our collective scale, scope and expertise, we can strengthen Ontario’s supply chain and deepen the value we bring to health care and other public sectors.”

SSW and MMC serve several of the same hospitals, including Trillium Health Partners, Halton Healthcare and William Osler Health System. The two organizations have also enjoyed a close, collaborative relationship for many years – even working out of adjoining office space in Burlington. As a combined organization, MMC can further enhance our supply chain optimization, customer-centric service and advanced analytics. The potential integration also aligns with the Ontario Government’s objectives to consolidate procurement activities in order to leverage the province’s full buying power.

“With the health care supply chain becoming increasingly complex, we need solutions that deliver total supply chain value for our hospitals, patients and communities,” commented Dr. Frank Martino, Board Chair, Shared Services West. “Exploring integration is the natural next step in our ongoing collaboration with MMC. We look forward to forging a path together that, ultimately, delivers the best possible outcomes for patient care in Ontario and beyond.”

Over the coming months, Mohawk Medbuy and Shared Services West will work through due diligence activities and other planning, with the goal of completing the transaction by the end of March 2024.
