Communications Specialist - Writing & Content - London, Ontario

We are currently recruiting for a full-time Communications Specialist – Writing & Content to join our Communications Team, working from our London, ON office.
The successful candidate will bring experience, enthusiasm, and a commitment to excellence to the role. They will apply their creativity, advanced business / marketing writing abilities and communications expertise in the execution of multi-channel corporate communication activities to internal and external audiences. They have the journalistic insight to recognize story opportunities and the craft to structure and tell them in a compelling way. They can translate complex ideas into engaging content – and have the experience and technical comfort to adapt it for sharing on various communications platforms.
The Communications Specialist – Writing & Content works in collaboration with their Graphics & Digital colleague under the direction of the Director, Business Development and Communications. Collectively, they are accountable for ensuring effective, consistent, professional communications that reinforce and build the Mohawk Medbuy brand, help support new business activity, and convey our strategy, initiatives and other information to staff, the health care organizations we support, as well as suppliers, government, media, the health care industry and other stakeholders.
Research, write and edit a wide range of content including, but not limited to: marketing materials, Annual Reports, Annual Service Plans, social media, public website, online Member Portal, intranet, outbound email (MailChimp) press releases, articles, media backgrounders, key messages, presentations, briefing notes, videos, newsletters and other materials regarding Mohawk Medbuy, our Board of Directors, Committees and Members:
Plan, present and execute communication initiatives and campaigns
Conduct interviews/source information and submissions from internal and external sources
Monitor and identify upcoming events that are relevant to our various audiences and stakeholders for ongoing communication initiatives (web, internal & external newsletters, etc.)
Post news stories on appropriate media platforms (website, Member Portal, intranet, social media, etc.)
Outbound email initiatives – plan, research, write and disseminate using email software (MailChimp, etc.); ensure email lists are vetted and accurate; develop lists for specific communication initiatives
Coordinate French translation, when required, and track/manage related costs
Track readership statistics on our various channels & web analytics; prepare regular reports on trends; develop strategies to improve engagement and traffic
Create and distribute approved communications (alerts, advisories, letters and updates)
Record and elevate to management any questions from stakeholders sent through our media channels
Manage, track and report all external costs for marketing/communications initiatives; coordinate POs, invoices, etc. with Finance in a timely manner
Industry news & information - Using monitoring tools (e.g. Google Alerts), aggregate relevant news and industry developments; establish appropriate communications approach/channels and manage dissemination to internal staff and/or Members, other stakeholders; flag high priority news that might require action by Mohawk Medbuy
Provide marketing support for Mohawk Medbuy’s partner, St. Joseph’s Health System, GPO, by producing marketing and communications materials (website, newsletters, rebate communications, etc.) for their CAPsource and MEALsource programs
Survey support – facilitate requests for internal and external surveys/feedback through the use of web tools (e.g. SurveyGizmo)
Business Development – Scan RFP websites (Biddingo, Merx, etc.) daily and share relevant RFPs as well as those pertaining to Mohawk Medbuy Members, potential Members, and competitors
Source and manage the supply of business cards, stationery and marketing materials for staff use at all Mohawk Medbuy locations; review content on a regular basis and update & print as needed to ensure adequate inventories are maintained
Source promotional items
Assist in the coordination of special events
Skills and Qualifications
Post-secondary Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related disciplines
Experience: 6+ years in a PR agency, Journalism or Marketing/Communications role
Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills
Knowledge and technical capability in all facets of MS Office and electronic communication
Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills – an effective collaborator
Demonstrated experience and aptitude in planning, creating and executing effective communications initiatives and campaigns
A solid understanding of branding, communications and marketing principles, guidelines and best practices
Ability to synthesize and distill key messages from briefings and meetings
Customer focused – ensure the customer perspective is a driving force in your approach, recommendations and decisions
Ability to conduct thorough research and information gathering from a variety of sources
Ability to conduct interviews with and have comfort with asking questions of a full range of stakeholders – from company executives, peers, colleagues, suppliers and others
Ability to adhere to and implement brand standards both internally and externally
Ability to develop specifications for marketing/communications materials, identify potential suppliers, issue request for quotations and manage on-going supplier relationships
Experience working with website content management tools
Experience in organizing special events
Outstanding attention to detail and ability to meet exacting standards and tight deadlines
Excellent organization, project management and time management skills
Adaptable and flexible – enthusiastically embrace new challenges
Ability to read and write in French is an asset
